Lately, my most favorite thing in the whole wide world is my bike. It's not a fancy bike. In fact, it is my friend's (and old roommate) old bike. She was very generous to donate it to my cause (the cause of not owning a bike). Thanks Liz! I find myself wanting to ride it EVERY where. It is so much fun! My recent adventure has been riding it to work. Don't let me fool you into believing this is some extraordinary adventure. My work is 4.5-miles from my house. And it's all downhill from my house to my office...which does make the return trip a bit tough. In fact I have a funny story about that.
Yesterday when I was riding home I encountered a long, steep hill. I had set my gears to the absolute lowest. Which you would think would be enough but no, I still had to power pedal (pedaling while standing up) the majority of the hill. Once I reached the summit (and was gasping for air) another biker came up from behind me and told me how impressed he was that I pedaled the whole way. And how much I inspired him to do the same because that was the first time he had ever pedaled up the whole hill. Did I mention that he told me all of this as he zoomed past me in his spandex outfit? I'm pretty sure he was lying.
I'm a recreational biker (remember my post from last year?). That's right, sidewalks the whole way! I think the moment I have to ride in the bike lane is the moment it'll stop being fun. In fact I just recently caved and bought a helmet (against my will) in order to be able to ride to work along the more trafficy roads. Wyatt is concerned that I'm acting a little too much like an Oregonian (bike riding, NPR loving, half-veggie eater) and that it'll be too late once we move - the damage will have been done. I like to relate it to the movie ET. You know, when ET was so far away from home how he got really sick? I think he's worried that I might get contaminated/sick from being in Oregon too long. I'm not too worried., I don't wear spandex while riding my bike...yet.

But you still shave your legs.....right?! I'm looking forward to getting back on my bike. It's in Quincy and I'm in Seattle.
Please tell me you shave....
I find it interesting that Wyatt is concerned about you becoming too oregonian....isn't he from Oregon? Doesn't he have the sickness?
I like your bike, too. I would love to make that my new venture, getting a bike to change up my work out.
i too am a bike lover. hurry- move to Seattle before you become an Oregonian.
Hey Brit- love the biking story, that's great! Enjoy riding now before you have to have baby seats to get around.
